Abstract
As there is an urgent need for clarity in the best interests of art, this thesis examines the question of authorship and attribution that surrounds some of the greatest contemporary artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Sol LeWitt, Jeff Koons, and Damien Hirst, artists who rarely touch their paintings as they were only behind the conceptual stage. These artists appreciated the complete removal of the artist from the piece – so, who is to say it is not their work?
