Abstract
The title of my thesis holds great significance because it speaks to the three primary threads of my collection. My mother has and continues to be an inspiration, making her the literal birth giver to both my existence and poetry. I have also been nurtured by my motherland, India. A handful of poems in my thesis are place poems to introduce my cultural identity that has been bestowed by my place of birth. The last birth giver is the United States and Trinity College because I was given the space to rediscover and mold my identity, leading to a rebirth.
