Abstract
Moving into college is stressful. A student can be left unaware about details regarding his or her room’s size and shape, making selection of items with which to fill the room a difficult task. As such, students rely heavily on online retail after having finally seen the room, which presents hassles of its own.
dorm|SHUI seeks to eliminate these features by providing users with a testing environment in which various furniture arrangements can be tested before a physical move is made. Furthermore, information regarding furniture and room layout is aggregated from a College’s Office of Residential Services, so as to make the testing environment relevant.
User registration functionality allows users to save their work and return to it later, or users may choose instead to load previously generated room layouts as given to them by a friend. A prototype is also in place that models the way in which information on a user’s progress could be sent to a third-party website for the purpose of implementing a shopping cart system.
