Trinity’s Raether LITC and 59 other academic libraries have joined to create the Eastern Academic Scholars’ Trust (EAST). The purpose of this EAST initiative is to preserve the unique and scarcely-held books in its members’ collections for long-term access by the entire cooperative. Trinity has agreed to preserve a group of these books in our own main collection and to make them available to others in EAST for the required minimum of 15 years. To further ensure their preservation, we are digitizing and storing the books in our Trinity College Digital Repository. By digitizing we can increase use of the content while lessening damage to the physical book. EAST is now working on a related plan which will cover journals.
