Abstract

While growing up in an Italian family, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to a different culture. I was told some of the most amazing stories about life in Italy as well as the journey it took to come to America. My grandparents, Salvatore and Lina Mangione, like many other Italian immigrants, have a remarkable story. For my thesis, I documented this story and connected it back to some of the historical data that we now have. Their story focuses on their journey to the United States including the trials and tribulations they faced. It also includes how they established themselves in America upon arrival and where they migrated to. Oral history is how the majority of history has been passed down throughout the years; if someone does not stop to write down the stories, one day they may be lost.
