Abstract

This paper examines the role of the literary magazine Nosotros in the creation of an argentine national identity at the start of the 20th century. Published from 1907 to 1943 in Buenos Aires, the magazine includes poetry, philosophy, essays, short stories and literary reviews and critiques from European and Latin American writers. The paper looks closely at two selections in the early period of the magazine’s publication, 1907-1912 and analyzes the extent to European values are instilled in the discussion of argentine nationalism. By looking at the Nosotros mission, as well as the language utilized in the literary critiques, the paper reveals the role that literature has played in the creation of a Eurocentric argentine identity.
